School is back in session! Whether you are doing virtual school or attending in-person, it is essential to be prepared and ready for your classes. From school supplies to new clothes, below are a few financial hacks to help you score big, spend small on your back-to-school shopping. 

1. Buy in Bulk

Whether you are a college student or a parent with multiple children, buying essential clothing like underwear and socks in bulk can save you money. Clothing and school supplies can be purchased by the bulk for a lower price online through websites like Amazon or at warehouses like Sam's Club or Costco. (Paid memberships are required to shop at Sam's Club and Costco, but you can ask for a one-time free guest pass or ask to borrow a friend's membership card.) Retailers, such as Five Below and Walmart, also have back-to-school specials such as 4-for-a-dollar on supplies like notebook paper. 

2. Dollar Stores

For supplies such as calculators, writing paper, and planners, visit your local dollar store. Dollar stores are known to have lower prices versus big-name retailers.

3. Use Coupons

Coupons are the perfect play for great deals or receiving a percentage off the item(s) you are purchasing. You may have a coupon book delivered to your house or find them on a website, mobile app, or in your local newspaper.

If you have a favorite store that you like to purchase your school supplies or clothing, you could save money by signing up to be a part of that retailer's email list. By subscribing to their newsletter or signing up to receive texts from your favorite stores, you can catch deals by being informed sooner or accessing "member" only deals.



5. Price Match

Price matching is excellent because it ensures you receive the lowest and best price compared to other retailers. For example, stores like Target and Best Buy are known to match the cost of an identical item that may have been initially cheaper at another store.
