How many children do you have, and how old are they?

I have two kids. My son, Cameron, 9, and my daughter, Taylor, 7.

What’s the best piece of financial advice you received from your father?

The best advice I got from my father was, “If a man doesn’t work, he shouldn’t eat.” Essentially this quote means that a true man will show up and put in the work for his family and himself. Whatever it takes, no excuses.

What pieces of financial advice have you taught your children?

We have taught them what it means to invest in a company through the stock market. We have also taught them what “buy and hold” real estate investing is. We want to teach them the house hacking strategy as they get older and get out on their own.

What advice would you give a father looking to get better with money?

Know your strengths and weaknesses, and don’t be too prideful to ask for help or a consult. Be it your spouse or a financial professional.

What does a financial legacy look like for you?

My financial legacy looks like starting my kid's adult life off with significant financial help. Paying for college, paying for a business endeavor, or giving them help with a home purchase, and, of course entrusting them with Mom and Dad’s (my wife and I) assets once we make our transition.

Anything else that you would like to share with our readers?

I believe millennial fathers are some of the most involved fathers in our kids' lives in human history. I’m just glad to be in this fraternity.
