As the first day of school is right around the corner, many parents and children will be looking to purchase clothing, school supplies, and other essentials. To help parents out with these costly annual purchases, some states have school sales tax holidays, meaning certain items will be exempt from sales tax. To help you maximize your savings, here is a breakdown of what items will be tax-free, by state.

 

Arkansas

Date: August 6 through August 7, 2022


Eligible purchases include clothing and school supplies totaling less than $100. School Supplies, including art supplies and instructional materials, are also included with no spending limit. In addition, electronics such as cell phones, laptops, and tablets will also qualify for the no sales-tax rule with no spending limit. The sales tax holiday will end on Sunday, August 7, at 11:59 p.m.

Connecticut

 

Date: August 21 through August 27, 2022

Florida

 

Date: July 25 through August 7, 2022


Eligible purchases include clothing up to $100 and school supplies until $50. Electronics such as computers and accessories will also qualify for the no sales-tax rule with a $1,500 spending limit per item.

Illinois

 

Date: August 5 through August 14, 2022

Iowa

 

Date: August 5 through August 6, 2022

Maryland

 

Date: August 14 through August 20, 2022
