Parents who qualify for a stimulus check are eligible to receive an extra $1,400 if they give birth anytime during 2021, according to the new COVID-19 relief bill, which Congress passed on March 10, 2021.
Parents must claim the new dependent(s) on their 2021 taxes to receive the additional $1,400 stimulus check(s). The IRS will begin accepting 2021 tax returns in January 2022, which means eligible parents won’t receive the extra stimulus check until 2022.
Eligible parents must meet the following requirements:
- Must have had a child in 2021.
- Single filers must have an adjusted gross income up to $75,000. Partial stimulus checks will be given to those who have an adjusted gross income of up to $80,000.
- Head of household filers must have an adjusted gross income up to $112,500. Partial stimulus checks will be given to those who have an adjusted gross income of up to $120,000.
- Married joint filers will be eligible for the full stimulus check if their combined adjusted gross income is below $150,000. Partial stimulus checks will be given to those who have an adjusted gross income of up to $160,000.
- Must report the new dependent on your 2021 Tax Return.
Additional relief included in the COVID-19 bill is the expanded child tax credit. Eligible parents who have children aged five and under are eligible for $3,600 per child. Eligible parents can also receive $3,000 for children between the ages of 6 through 17.
